Haunted house actorTop 13 American haunted house and Denver #1 Again!

Well, we just got word. The 13th Door haunted house has been placed once again in the list of the top haunted houses in America.

America’s Top Haunts (the group that lists the best haunted houses in America) just sent us notification that our haunted house will be joining the list for the second time in the last two years. It is quite a thrill to have been nominated and we will certainly be doing everything we can this season to show the world that we deserve the title.

One of the things that gets you selected as a top haunt is charitable work, The 13th Door is proud that thanks to the generousity of our patrons, we are consistantly able to donate more food to local food banks than any of the other haunted houses in Denver. Through our efforts, many young people are able to fulfill their community service requirements and practice skills that serve them well as they proceed to higher educational opportunities.

Thank you America’s Top Haunts and thank you to all the great people at The 13th Door that make building Denver’s best haunted house possible.

We are looking for a few good ghouls

We are starting to get in touch with our cast members in preparation for the 2010 halloween season. Building and running haunted houses in Denver takes time. To that end, we would like you to contact us if you have an interest in working with us in the coming months. We are currently performing maintainance and making modifications to the haunted house and are looking for talented people that don’t mind getting dirty building trees, putting up wallpaper, slinging a brush and spraying cobwebs. If it sounds like working in a haunted house for little or no money is your kind of thing, we’d love to hear from you.

Where did Spring Go?

Just imagine, you’ve barely shaken off the snow and it’s already time to start making changes at the haunted house. Fankly I’m getting sick of the heat and starting to think I might be some sort of vampire… I try to avoid the sun and prefer working late at night. But it’s not about the sun, at least not sun light, it’s the heat that is the enemy. We don’t have airconditioning at the 13th Door.

I guess I’m crazy thinking anyone is going to feel sorry for me. I do have one of the greatest jobs in the world… scaring people. But that isn’t going to stop me from complaining about our weather and that I prefer my Denver haunted houses cold. At least I get to wear shorts to work and drink gallons soda and water every day.

Happy New Year from the ghosts…

The Scares Never End

Once Halloween has come, things don’t just stop at the Denver haunted houses. Now that we’ve cleaned and removed all the trash that has built-up over the season, we are now in the retrospective phase of the haunted house. We are going over each room, one by one, to determine what worked well and what is getting tired. We look over the customer comments and try to figure which rooms need repair, replacement and refurbishment. It is a process that will take the next several months, as we brainstorm ideas and go over our resources to determine how to improve the scares and flow of the attraction.

Local Hauntrepreneur Interviewed For National Story

The big snow storm in Denver put a damper on many of the area’s haunted houses, but KathE Walker remains upbeat about the prospect for scares this weekend. KathE was interviewed about running haunted houses in Denver and had quite a few interesting comments about what it is like scaring people for a living.

The news story includes video and photos of many of the different characters that can be seen at the haunted houses that KathE’s family runs.

As a bit of an update to the story, The 13th Door and Curse of Slaughterhouse Gulch are now scheduled to be open for business (due to demand) through November 1st from 7pm-10pm. It’s kind of a scare-extension.
